Deer Pond Ice Fishing

A Great sday fishing with the kids. We fished the pond for about 5 hrs catching one nice 13" brook trout. Matt, my 5 year old was very happy to lay claim to the red flagged trap. His first caught fish through the ice. A great day spent with the kids doing something I love. I think I have a full-time fishing buddy with Matthew now. Time to put a fly rod in his hand!

A Great October Day Fishing!!!!!!

So what would you do with 4 weeks vacation 2 weeks of sick time a year?

GO FISHING!

Took one of these days today and went fishing with a great friend.
After a short walk in we enjoyed a nice hot cup of coffee at a self made campsite. We could see the natives getting restless through the brush, so it was time to fish. With the beat up canoe left in the woods all season, winter included you always wonder if it’ll still float. I found out what temperature the water was, the hard and wet way. Yes the foot slipped off the shore as we pushed off and the water was up to shin. It was COLD!

.

Some fish neared 10”, but most 6-8”. The fly of the day was an irresistible. All day we both used the one fly and boated many fish. Not that big, but for native fish not bad.

Cool Reflections

A great fall day fishing in Maine, with brilliant colored foliage and brookies!

A Peaceful Day and Great Fishing!

After a short day of work Saturday we headed to the place I find myself fishing more. First because fishing has been great this year and second the gas is less if you only have to drive 10 miles to start fishing.

We decided to take a different way into the pond today, which followed the outlet stream. The water was low in the stream as you cold see the water rolling over the rock stream bed. But after a short walk we where ready to fish. It is so much easier when you have a friend leaving a canoe down at the pond and is willing to give you the key and combo.

I suggest too tie on the tan caddis on for the first fly. One cast one fish, a nice 8 inch brookie with the great native colors. We would catch fish all day on 2 different flies, with the largest fish being around 14 inches. I was surprised to see some of these fish seem to have there spawning colors already. I’m not sure if this possible, but beautiful fish.

As we fished the shore line we focused on the water bugs skimming the top of this mirror like water that the pond holds. We could lay a caddis in the middle of this group of bugs and WHAM! Fish on.

As we made are way around the pond we found that the temp change was very different, sometimes up to 15 degrees colder. (Estimated by handy finger) Let me tell you, find the cold water find the most beautiful Brook Trout known to man. The colors, the hook jaw and just the over all numbers of fish hanging around here. WOW!

Misery Pond Camping

I left home @ 2am head for the Capital Rd. With a brief stop at the East Outlet of the Kennebec. I rolled in at the Kennebec @ about 5:15am, not a bad trip. It was raining hard until I reached Waterville, which got me a bit nerves. I quickly started fishing and was surprise that the water was so low. I could wade further this day then any other day I've fished here. I fished for a couple of hours with no fish to net, but did have a couple bumps. So, I was now off the find the buddy's at the campsite. They were staying at Misery Stream and planned on moving to Misery Pond later that day. I did find them without any troubles. Thank god for the Maine Atlas.

We ended up moving camp that afternoon, as they were staying an addition 4 days then I. We fished the pond that evening with nothing. But planned on hitting it early. How come supper always taste better at a campsite?

My friend Bob woke up early to hit the pond at sunrise and got fishing. As I awoke I heard him talking about he had caught 3 nice brookies and he brought one back for breakfast. I seem to jump out of bed real quick when I hear fish being caught. I proceeded to get my stuff ready to fish and was out on the pond before you knew it. I was able to fish for a few hours before the rain came pouring down. That was the end of fishing. I don't mind fishing in the rain, but with it coming down that hard I couldn't see the water.

So, for me only one small brookie at the the stream site, but a great time with friends. I managed to get this great picture of the pond. Misery Pond really isn't a misery.

A Good Day Fishing!

After a long spring not being able to fish much, I was able to get out and wet a line. I took a friend fishing as he wants to learn the art of fly fishing. We went to my favorite local pond to catch some native brookies. They have stopped stocking this pond several years ago and the fish are really catching on. We where into fish cast after cast, but these fish were about 3-6". But my buddy is loving it, because he is catching fish. I didn't fish for awhile wanting him to catch as many as he could and help him with the cast. I was able to hook on to several 12"+ fish later in the day before the thunderstorm rolls in. This is another story. On my last cast, with a large olive caddis fly. A large fish was setting up for attack on the fly. You could see the wake as he approached the fly and with a loud swoosh sound he took the fly on the end of my 2wt rod. Now that rod can have a bend in it. After a small battle I landed a nice 15" brook trout. My nicest fish from this pond.

What a Day!

A Day of Calm and a Great View of Nature!

It was one day this past fall fishing my favorite place in Southern Maine, when a friend of nature walked out to say hello. As to my suprise there was a cow moose just behind the bull. I first thought it was the wind making all the noise, as the wind was really blowing down the pond.
This just shows you that in Maine, you can really find nature just about anywhere. In my journey for Maine's native brook trout, you see the true beauty of mother nature. Posted by Picasa
